Tech Tip of the Day: Driving Tech Needs Maintenance Too

Your car is more connected than ever — Bluetooth, navigation apps, smart chargers, hands-free calls, voice control… the works. But all that tech needs a little care to keep it running safely and smoothly.

Here’s how to avoid the most common driving tech hiccups:

🚗 1. Keep Your Phone & Apps Updated

If Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Google Maps, or Spotify are glitchy in your car, the problem usually starts with your phone.
Update your iOS or Android software regularly and keep your apps current to avoid bugs and connection drops.

🔁 2. Re-Pair Bluetooth Devices When Things Get Weird

If you’re dealing with:

  • Calls not connecting

  • Music cutting out

  • Phone not showing up in your car’s system

Delete the Bluetooth pairing on both your phone and car, then re-pair them from scratch. It clears out old connection bugs.

🔌 3. Don’t Ignore Your Mount, Cable, or Charger

  • A loose phone mount can make navigation hard to read (or fall mid-drive)

  • A cheap or old charging cable may not fast-charge anymore

  • A bulky case can block wireless charging or cause overheating

Invest in a sturdy, low-profile mount and a reliable cable — it’ll keep your setup safer and easier to use.

🚫 4. Use “Do Not Disturb While Driving” Mode

You can set your phone to block calls and texts automatically while you’re driving — and even send an auto-reply.

On iPhone:
Settings > Focus > Driving

On Android:
Settings > Safety & Emergency > Do Not Disturb

It’s safer, less distracting, and keeps your attention where it should be: on the road.

🧼 Bonus Tip: Clean Your Screen & Ports

Your phone collects dust, pocket lint, and fingerprints. A dirty charging port or screen can make your tech harder to use — especially while driving.

Wipe it down gently with a microfiber cloth, and use a toothpick or compressed air for charging port buildup (carefully!).
